When I was in college we were taught with different programming languages from Assembly, C/C++, Java, VB, ASP, C#.net and PHP. Since our University was tied or probably had an agreement with Microsoft our major subjects in Computer Science were focused in using .NET. We had no option but to embrace C#.NET and its excess codes (if you know what I mean). I’ve been coding applications and developing systems for 2 years using C#.net (school requirements and thesis projects). Coding had been quite tiring and I got bored and promised not to write a single code again after graduation but instead pursue doing graphic works.
Broken promises? I even ate my own words.
After college I was employed as a ‘Junior Software Developer’ in InfoWeapons Corp. My job description ‘Programmer’, which means I’ll be writing codes again not C#.net but PHP. As a ‘programmer’ it was quite shameful for failing not to answer most of the interview questions (on my defense I’m not an ‘omnitech’ guy, I am a ‘hands on’ guy).
Since fate has brought me to the coding world, I couldn’t imagine how I’ve been writing codes for 4 years already. I even developed an e-learning WebApp of which I sold to some of the local review centers here in Cebu. I’ve been actively participating into the open-source community and it’s really fun to take part and contribute something of value to the local IT groups like DevCon, Cebu Drupal user Group and Google Technology User Group.
